A former Atlanta-area attorney, who gave up his license in the midst of an investigation regarding potential financial misconduct, was arrested last week on securities fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud. The ex-lawyer, named Hendrickx Toussaint, was arrested in DeKalb County, Georgia on July 3, 2014, just over five months following the Georgia Supreme Court’s acceptance of his voluntary surrendering of his license to practice law.
A grand jury indictment from Madison County, Alabama alleges that Toussaint, among others, fraudulently solicited investor funds to be used in a gold “buy-sell” program. Toussaint was illegally soliciting investors by not being registered with the Alabama Securities Commission to conduct securities business in Alabama. Toussaint will be extradited to Alabama and is currently being held in the DeKalb County jail in lieu of $60,000 bond.
